Cryotherapy
This method is usually used to treat sunspots. Liquid nitrogen is sprayed onto the skin for 5 – 20 seconds depending on the thickness of the lesion. You will probably feel some stinging and mild pain, but this will not last long. You can relieve this with Panadol. After the treatment, your skin will become red and swollen and may develop a blister. Healing takes one to three weeks, after which the skin may look perfectly normal or slightly lighter in colour.
Aftercare
– Clean the treated area with soap and water as you normally would. It is fine to get the area wet; however, be sure to pat it dry carefully and delicately.
– If blisters are large and painful, you can open the blister with a sterilized needle.
– Apply a thin layer of Vaseline ointment to the site twice daily.
– If the site is prone to irritation, cover it with a bandage.
– You will see a scab forming after a few days. This crust will fall off on its own. A second scab may form as well, and it too will shed on its own.
– If the treated site becomes red, pussy, tender or raised, return to our clinic. This can happen even several months after the procedure, most often in the neck or upper trunk areas.
– Avoid make-up , powders and cream on the healing wound.
– Make an appointment if lesion does not resolve;you may need a second treatment.
– You can have a shower but avoid scrubbing the lesions or having the shower spray forcefully onto the blisters of crusts.
– Once the scabs fallen off use vitamin E cream to minimise the discolouration and Sunscreen to prevent recurrence of lesions.
